One of my favourite walks to embark on whilst staying at Loch Rannoch is Allt na Bogair Trail in Tay Forest Park.  The Forest Park is not one forest but a series of contrasting woodlands in the heart of Perthshire.

We always begin from the Carie car park, 3 miles west of Kinloch Rannoch.  This excellent waymarked walk combines easy walking on forest tracks with pleasant mixed woodland, including remnants of the ancient Caledonian pine forest.  The 5 mile trail traces the Allt na Bogair burn through native broadleaves and Scots pine and opens up to offer stunning panoramic views of Loch Rannoch and the rolling hills. The colours of the trees in Autumn are just breathtaking and what a bonus to have the sun make an appearance.

This is such a remote, peaceful, beautiful place and each time we walk here it feels like we are the only people around apart from the odd red squirrel, bird of prey and timid roe deer who use this spectacular woodland as their very own playground.
