Loch Achray in the Trossachs is a freshwater loch and is well known for its sheltered location surrounded by woodland, forests and mountains. The south side of the loch with its woodland tracks and forest roads is an ideal place for cycling or walking. The loch is also a popular spot for anglers who fish for brown trout. The calm waters of the loch usually offer incredible reflections of the surrounding scenery making the loch a photographer's dream location. Often portrayed as "The Highlands in Miniature", the Trossachs boast magnificent diverse scenery from enchanting lochs to dramatic heather-clad peaks, from lush green forests to traditional villages steeped in legend and folklore. Rob Roy MacGregor, regarded by many as a folk hero, hailed from the Trossachs and his presence is definitely evident in these parts. It is possible to visit his final resting place, behind a ruined church, in the village of Balquidder.
